New page

Everyone knows the bathroom is typically the dampest wettest most humid room in the house for the obvious reason. This is where more water is typically used than in any other room of the house. Mold is most likely to thrive more so in our bathrooms than in the kitchen for example. The heat and steam generated by the long showers and hot baths provide the best moist humid conditions to promote a unhealthy breeding ground for many types of mold and fungi to flourish eventually overrunning your bathroom. The prevention of mold and fungi in your bathrooms should be at the top of your cleaning priority list. If neglected, mold and fungi can create a dangerous environment for the whole family. Mold can spread through the walls and into the ceilings, attic, floors and basement spreading to all parts of the structure depending on the location of the bathrooms and the style and design of your home.

Clean and inspect your bathroom or bathrooms often. Ensure that all areas are inspected for mold, fungi and mildew. It is important that if there is a laundry basket in the bathroom, it should be emptied on a regular basis. Leaving wet clothes in a laundry basket for extended periods of time will create an environment ideal for the growth and spread of mold and mildew.

Keep the bathroom dry as possible at all times. Get into a habit of wiping down the bathtub and shower area after every use will be a big help in eliminating dampness and humidity conditions in this area. Most bathrooms are located on exterior walls of the home with windows. If weather conditions permit, crack the window wile showering to help and allow the humid and steamy air to escape. Ceiling fans and bathroom exhaust fans should always be installed in create adequate air circulation and keep humidity levels low.

Make sure that there is some kind of air flow / circulation in all bathrooms to avoid a build up humidity and moisture that will almost certainly lead to mold and mildew growth. Occasionally clean out under sinks and cabinets with a damp towel with a little disinfectant added to the mixture will help to kill the mold and mildew leaving the area fresh and smelling clean. Remember air flow is key in the prevention of mold, fungi and mildew.

The cleaning of bathrooms in a home is probable one of the most un favorite jobs on the things to do list, but with a little team work the effort of cleaning a bathroom can be minimized with a little extra help from the whole family. By working together and being aware of damp areas where mold can breed as well as drying up areas as required, we can all live a little safer and free of bathroom mold and mildew.
