I must admit that after recently traveling and staying in a beautiful hotel, I found myself wondering if there could have been sharing our accommodations. I, like many other people assumed because we stayed at an expensive hotel that looked clean, there couldn’t possibly be a bed bug problem or infestation. Just the sight of a few bed bugs, visible and moving along the seams and crevices on furniture in a hotel usually means the hotel is already dealing with a heavy infestation of bed bugs. If you do see a hotel bed bug, the scary thing is that bed bugs are nocturnal and just the fact that you see one suggests there may be millions of full grown bed bugs looking for a source of food. Since there are usually only one or two people in a room it means they are looking for you!

So, if you don’t want to take any bed bugs home with you, be careful of your clothing and luggage, at even the most posh hotel or resort. There are several things you can do to protect yourself when leaving the hotel that you think may have bed bugs. So that you don’t take a few bed bugs home with you can take some precautions before you get back to your home and cause havoc with other members of your family.

Buy some type of natural insect bed bug spray repellent and spray your luggage thoroughly. Choose a bed bug spray that contains sodium lauryl sulfate. Powders are also an option. Diatomaceous earth is a great choice and will provide long term protection. Remove your clothing from your suitcase but place in a plastic bag before you put them in your dresser drawers. Also, keep your suitcase off the floor and your bed. You can also lay your clothing in a dry bathtub. Bed bugs usually are not in tubs because of their smooth surface, they much rather wooden items.

Try following these tips and carefully check your clothes and bags before packing to leave the hotel. If you do bring bed bugs home with you, natural sprays and powders are great for bed bug elimination. These products along with proper cleaning with a good enzyme cleaner will wipe out bed bug populations and render you home free and clear of bed bugs. Getting rid of bed bugs can be an exhausting task. It is very important to take control of any bed bug infestation immediately for best results.
