RootX Foaming root killer is designed to quickly kill roots on contact without harming trees, piping or sewer components.

Once applied, patented RootX root killer completely eliminates roots in sewer lines, storm pipes and septic systems. The RootX aggressive foaming action strips away grease and grime to quickly penetrate and kill roots on contact and free up blockages.

*NOTE: If this is your first time ordering RootX you may need to add a funnel applicator to your cart as RootX does not ship with one. With the RootX funnel jar, you can mix and apply RootX right from the container reducing potential exposure compared to mixing the product in an open bucket.

NOTE: Only 1 funnel ships with “free funnel” offers regardless of order size/quantity

How often do I need RootX treatments?

Using RootX once or twice each year is suitable for most systems. Aggressive, rapidly recurring roots or those in high replacement cost areas may need quarterly treatments and in extreme infestation cases, monthly treatments. In many areas replacing lines can cost upwards of 10,000.00 or more, not to mention the cost of re-doing any landscaping.

How do roots get into sewer pipes?
As trees grow, their root systems expand underground and constantly seek new water sources. Your sewer lines leaving your home or building provide a regular flow of water which the tree roots easily locate and tap into through small cracks and joint areas of the pipes. Once inside, roots grow so as to absorb maximum water and unfortunately, cause maximum damage.

Can roots destroy my piping?
The EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) states that root intrusion is likely the most destructive cause of damage in wastewater collection systems. As invading roots grow in length and diameter, fragments of piping break off, creating a larger entry point for even more small roots to enter. This cycle leads to total destruction of the pipe over time. Aggressive auguring (having the roots cut) can cause further damage to the lines.

Can’t I just have my roots cut out?
As roots enter piping they expand over time and cause small portions of the piping to chip away, creating larger holes. Mechanical cutting can further exasperate the problem as the drain line augers must be pushed blindly down your lines and can chip away even more piping.
Regular or yearly cutting means that the roots are in the pipe and the damage is already done. Allowing the roots to regrow each year only allows more potential damage to occur from the roots and the auger (cutting) procedure.

Is RootX a better alternative to hard mechanical cutting?
Mechanical cutting is temporary and is a ticking time bomb. Using RootX on a scheduled basis will completely eliminate the need for further machine routing and will save your piping from premature collapse or breakage.

What if my pipe is clogged right now?
If your pipes are so infiltrated with roots that your flow is restricted, we suggest a 1 time (and final) mechanical cutting so as to prevent further blockage. Roots killed by RootX may swell in size during the decomposition process which can make matters worse.

If your lines are blocked, have them cut out and apply RootX within 1 hour. If you do not apply the product within 1 hour, wait 5 weeks so that the cut roots are healed and actively seeking water. Roots will not re-grow during the 5 week window, so missing the 1 hour window does not pose a problem.

Where should I apply RootX?
If one exists, the cleanout is the preferred method as it is closer to the roots and may save costs as less product may be needed depending on the size of your property. RootX can also be applied through the toilet, however, only 2lbs at a time should be applied to prevent an overflow. To apply more than 2 pounds at a time, apply the first two pounds, then once the toilet is clear of foam and ready for flushing, apply subsequent treatments 2 pounds at a time until you have used your desired amount.

How long does it take to apply RootX?
It takes just minutes to complete a RootX treatment.

What is in RootX?
RootX kills roots using Dichlobenil, a proven aquatic herbicide. RootX also contains degreasing agents that strip away the slime barrier on roots, allowing the Dichlobenil herbicide to penetrate better.

Is RootX harmful to the environment?
No. The RootX formula is non-caustic, non-fumigating and non-systemic. It is classified as a General Use product by the Environmental Protection Agency and is registered for use in all 50 states (EPA registration #68464-1). In addition, RootX carries the signal word CAUTION, the lowest chemical hazard rating according to the ISO 3864-2 standard for hazard severity panels.

Does RootX harm trees, shrubs or plants?
No. RootX only attacks the roots inside the pipe and prevents future growth without effecting those roots outside the pipes.

Can RootX be used in all types of septic systems too?
Yes. RootX can be poured by a professional directly into the septic tank and d-box to eliminate any roots that have infested the tank or lines (not for use in septic systems in the state of Florida).

Is RootX bad for pipes or septic systems?
Not at all. RootX contains no diquat, copper or salt based herbicides which can be caustic and degrade the integrity of your piping components. RootX also promotes bacterial growth to helps balance out bacteria in your lines or septic (not for use in septic systems in the state of Florida).

Will RootX cause blocked lines to worsen?
RootX will not cause further blockage however, small “birds nest” roots can slightly swell during initial stages of decay. You may wish to have lines that are severely blocked augured 1 final time prior to using RootX.

How long does it take the RootX foaming action to subside after application?
The RootX foaming action will normally subside in roughly 15 minutes.
