Mold is everywhere and high concentrations of mold spores can be found in areas such as compost piles, landfills and wet damp basements, its part of our environment and a decomposer of organic material such as fallen tree leaves, animal droppings, wood and damp building materials. Some individuals suffering from asthma or compromised immune systems can experience server side effects from the exposure to mold. The amount of exposure is currently still out for debate. Epidemiological research has in fact determined that humans that live in musty environments compared to humans that live in dry environments have a considerably higher rate of repertory illness in general. Some researchers have claimed that humans exposed to large amounts of mold have experienced brain damage and even death in some cases.

Regular testing of your home for mold is the best course of action against dangerous toxic mold infestation and mold contamination. Common sense is the best way to detect mold and mildews. The use of your eyes and sense of smell are the best mold detectors. Any discoloration on the walls or floors should require investigation. Musty basements are a very common source of molds and mildews that can travel into the upper levels of your home causing expensive remediation costs. Get rid of mold and keep it out is the best course of action.
